CPAN GTop installation problem

I'm trying to set up the DW code on a Dreamhost PS server running Debian Etch for a friend, and I've worked my way around all my problems except my inability to install GTop. It starts off telling me it can't run gnome-config, dumps a whole lot of data, then says 'can't locate glib.h' and ten other similar files and errors out.

If I skip past that and try to populate the database (gods know if that would even work at all without GTop), it tells me it can't find ljlib and errors out.

Advice?

So, not only is Tuesday the new Monday, Wednesday appears to be the new Tuesday. Thankfully, I am able to take a break from the exciting world of Tax Time™ to bring you the update, only slightly late. (Not-thankfully, I am doing so after about 20 hours of uptime and while on serious painkillers, so if I am less coherent than usual, this would be why.)

We have an action-packed, thrill-a-minute blockbuster at the box office this week (IN A WORLD ... where [staff profile] denise likes to make stupid jokes in the weekly update introduction....) Coming soon to a theatre near you:

Hello, this is Yvi, doing another code tour for the interested laypeople and beyond :) Last week, we had a pretty quiet week because people are working on awesome, big projects and such we only have 7 resolved bugs this week, 6 of which are in Styles.

Auuugh, neither Mark nor I realized the deadline for GSOC was so close! (It's the 12th of March. Whups.)

We need ideas for things we would want someone to do -- largeish projects with lots of shiny that can be implemented fairly independently without a steep learning curve on the code. Mark's going to brainstorm his own list, but if anybody has any ideas, sound off!

I think there's a problem with my calendar; it keeps getting stuck back on Monday. I'm fairly certain it was just Monday yesterday ...

Still, temporal distortion aside, onwards to the weekly update.

musings and using this space

I have been thinking about using the online journalling space more often and I think I will start posting green thoughts here. By that I mean things that I do, things that I think are important, topics for thought all relating to sustainability and to walking more lightly on mother earth.

I am looking at more reusing along with downsizing first our stuff and eventually our living space. I am also trying to implement the policy that if something new (even used) comes into the house, something else has to be earmarked for leaving. This does not include food or medications of course.

Fitting for IWD, we rented out our spare bedroom for week as a favour to son #2's gf's mom (yes that is complicated). The person was a young woman and as our garbage can filled up with paper and plastic "feminine hygiene" products I was struck by what a lot of garbage my household does NOT produce each time my daughter or I menstruate!!!

I struggle to apply my principles and rules to my knitting. I love the beautiful bright coloured fancy yarns and could always buy more. I am trying to use what I have and to actually give away yarn that I really don't think I will ever use. I have a 2 rubber made style bin stash (with a few extra bits and pieces around the house and my needles are stored seperately) and I am hoping to reduce that to 1 bin by the end of 2010.
